Born in Jackson Heights, Queens

 

A graduate of William Cullen Bryant H.S. In Long Island City; Attended Hunter College prior to her marriage. Lifelong lover of classical music, she met her husband Walter Joyce at the original Metropolitan Opera House in 1956, marrying in 1957. They remained together in love until his passing in 2014 She was a remarkable mother to five children, in whom she instilled her passions for music, literature, and the beauty in every day. Marjorie held administrative jobs at the Petroleum Institute in Rockefeller Center, Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY and, in ecumenical fashion, at both Temple Israel and St. Luke’s in Westport, CT. Upon retiring she was a docent at the Morgan Library and Museum in Manhattan as well as recording award winning books for the blind in CT. In addition she made time for her joy in painting and drawing. She will be remembered for her mellifluous speaking voice, gentle soul, personal grace, her self-taught mastery of many subjects, her ardent attention to the English language, and her enduring delight in Christmas. She is survived by her children: Mary (Fritz), Walter Ill, Timothy (Stella), Matthew, and Megan (Alex) and her grandchildren: Patrick, Kyle, Caroline, Kathleen, and Nicholas.

Memorial Visitation: 10 to 12 Noon, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Prayer service will begin at 11 am.
