Barbara Lewis Irmischer passed away peacefully on October 16, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 27, 1932, daughter of the late Therese Kelly Lewis and Elmore Winfred Lewis, Sr. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter, always grateful for their time together. A lifetime resident, she attended the Bronxville School as a child, graduating with the Class of 1950. Upon completing her studies at Briarcliff Junior College in 1952 and Mandl School in NY, she started as a medical secretary for the practice of Dr. Leo L. Morgenstern of White Plains. Never drifting far from Bronxville, she eventually returned to work for the local pediatrician, Dr. Henry Kaessler and dentist, Dr. George Laskey. In 1968, she began work at the Bronxville School as an Elementary School Assistant Librarian. There she would spend the next 30 years, retiring in 1998 from Bronxville High School as Guidance Office Secretary. Never one to sit still, she continued working as an assistant for the Reformed Church Nursery School until 2002. She truly enjoyed watching the children of Bronxville grow up. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Dzera and her husband Paul, with their 3 children, Chris, Lauren, and James; her son, Richard Gordon, Jr. and his wife Mary, with their two children, Michael and Richard; her son, William Gordon and his wife Linda, with their son, William; and her daughter, Wendy Irmischer; an army of nieces and nephews; and a wealth of precious friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her older brother Elmore (Ted), and her beloved husband Walter. She was a lifetime member of St Joseph’s Church in Bronxville. A woman of devoted faith, she attended services until she was unable. Calling hours are Monday, October 28, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. at The Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home in Bronxville, New York. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made in her memory to two of her favorite charities: St Jude Children’s Research Hospital and/or the American Heart Association. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bronxville, New York at 10:45 a.m. Saturday November 9, 2019.

October 22, 2019 at 2:49 pmTo all that new this kind lady let it be known how grateful I am to have had her enter my life. When she and my father found each other, I was fortunate enough to bear witness to their first meeting, years after they had both been childhood friends walking dogs together. I am glad that Bobbie was there to see that too. He was so excited to see her again!
We were able to spend many happy years, experience wonderful things and she provided so many experiences I may never have had. I was truly blessed to have her as my second mother and she will forever be in my heart. A bright, warm, loving and caring light will be missed always, but I know there has been a big warm hug to greet her. I take comfort in that and knowing they can be together again.

October 28, 2019 at 11:38 amBarbara was an integral part of a group of new teachers and staff that arrived in the Bronxville School District in the late 60’s-early 70’s. That staff, under the leadership of Dr.Lou Braun and others, carved a memorable niche in the village school system for the next 3 decades.
We were dedicated to making the district “the Best” and prided ourselves in its operation. Barbara’s presence was a mainstay in that effort as a member of the guidance department staff.
My interactions with Barbara,, as a member of the Science Dept. and a coach, were always met with that sense of professionalism and concern for the students.
Barbara will certainly be missed but never forgotten.
