Sandra Ann (Dent) Heavy
Sandra Ann (Dent) Heavy a beloved daughter, wife, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, friend and teacher who lived her 61 years to the absolute fullest. Taken too soon, she truly lived her “Dash” well, leaving behind a legacy defined by profound love, joy, and lasting impact. Sandra was preceded in death by her father Noel Dent Sr., Kitty Dent (Higgins), and her husband Joseph Heavey.
Sandra was a natural beauty with dark hair, bright blue eyes, a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh that touched countless lives. She grew up as the middle child —taking care of her younger sister, Catherine, while looking up to her older brother, Noel. That beautiful family bond came full circle in her later years when Noel (Cindy) and Catherine (Erik) became her devoted caregivers, supporting her with boundless compassion, love, and empathy.
A proud Irish-American with roots in Dublin and Cavan, Sandra was deeply connected to her heritage and enjoyed Irish music. She graduated from Manhattan College and initially began a successful career in Advertising before finding her true calling: Teaching. Sandra brought so much joy to her students and took great pride in making a positive difference in their lives.
A true fashionista, Sandra loved dancing, singing, shopping, and traveling. She was a lifelong cat lover and an incredibly talented seamstress who even made her own beautiful wedding gown. Sandra met the love of her life, Joe, when they were grammar school classmates. After reconnecting later in life, they fell in love and built a wonderful marriage, frequently spending their time together enjoying the Rockaways.
Sandra was a proud aunt who treasured her four nieces and nephews: Andew: Her first nephew, whom she adored, Caroline: Sandra’s mini-me, who looks just like her (with the only difference being her blonde hair). Catie: Deeply treasured and named in honor of Sandra’s mother (Kitty). Ben: The perfect completion, evening the score to two nephews and two nieces.
From Tolentine to St. Raymonds to St. Margarets to The Church of St. Joseph-Bronxville (a town she loved so well!).
A beautiful soul taken too soon, Sandra is now reunited with her husband, Joe, her parents, and the many family members and friends who are waiting with open arms to welcome her home. Sláinte

May 29, 2026 at 1:02 amHello, Helen O’Brien reached out to me. I’m so sorry to hear Sandra passed away. I’ve fond memories of her as a child and she did me the great honour of coming to see me in a play in Dublin. It was so lovely to see the beautiful and interesting woman she’d grown up to become. My condolences to Catie and Noel.
Kind regards, Donna Dent.
