Marion E. Harris was born on January 5, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois. For some unknown reason, from the day she came home from the hospital, she was always called by her middle name — Elaine.
Elaine is pre-deceased by Donald, her husband of 56 years, and sisters Dorothy Oudshoorn and Maxine Neumann. She is survived by her four children, daughter Linda Paolillo and spouse Michael, daughter Heather Field and spouse Scott, son Donald Jr. and spouse Patty, son Kevin, and grandchildren Brian and Laura.
Elaine was raised on the south side of Chicago. After the war, she began her career at Grant Advertising where she met her future husband. She was secretary to the president and Don, just back from the war, was new to the mail room. He asked her out several times before she finally relented. They married in 1948 in Chicago and Don’s advancing career throughout the years then took them to Kentucky, New York, Louisiana, and finally to nearby Edgemont where they raised their family.
If you asked anyone who knew Elaine to describe her, you’d likely get the same answers for she was really the same person to everyone. Wife, mother, a loyal friend, a good listener, quietly dignified, reluctant to interfere, adverse to gossip, someone with a consistent and unwavering moral compass. She had a quick wit and when using it, there was always a twinkle in her eyes .
Elaine had a wonderful life and lived to be 94.
