Fusco, Carmen July 11, 1933 - April 12, 2019

With profound sorrow I share the very sad news that Professor Carmen Fusco left this earth on April 12.  She was a cutting edge, brilliant nutritionist and scientist adored by her patients, respected by her colleagues and loved by her family and friends.  Carmen practiced nutrition for 40 years and touched so many lives.  Her thriving practice based solely on patient referral is a testament to the positive outcomes she achieved for so many.  In a sad irony, Carmen was let down by the same callous ineptitude of certain practitioners of established medicine she so feverishly fought to keep her patients from succumbing to.  To those disease.  To Carmen, curing a disease while destroying the patient is no cure at all.   Her prescient understanding of blood tests and how each value was interrelated to the other was not unlike Beethoven’s comprehension of notes on a piano.  Both could see what others could not, and Carmen’s sonatas were the improved health surgeons who viewed Carmen as a collection of statistics rather than a human being, you should know that this was the very antithesis of how Carmen practiced her healing brand of personalized medicine.  She contemplated each patient’s unique requirements and treated the whole person, not just the and well being of the patients she cared for.  Carmen graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University at age 19 and moved to New York City   Her passion for living was inexhaustible and her beautiful life was the epitome of a life well lived. Carmen continued to help her patients until the very end of her life.   Among her many accomplishments was her professorship at New York Medical College and her cancer research at Cornell.  She leaves behind grieving family, friends, patients and a particularly broken hearted son Stephen who knows this world will forever be a little darker without Carmen in it.  Services on 4/16/19 from 4-8 PM at McGrath Funeral Home in Bronxville NY.
