Tom Dunlea passed away on January 9th, 2022. He was born in Cross County Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y., to Mary Cahill Finneran and Thomas Dunlea. He is predeceased by his mother, father and siblings Joan Dunlea and Richard and Colleen Cahill. He is survived by his beloved niece, Lindsay Dunlea, her fiancé Mohammed Rana, his maternal aunt, Mary Finneran and many cousins on both the Dunlea and Finneran sides.
Tom went to St. Barnabas in Woodlawn, (Bronx) N.Y., Stepinac High School in White Plains, N.Y. and Dominican College in Orangeburg, N.Y. He then went to Carpenters Technical College in Manhattan, N.Y. where he became a skilled carpenter and tradesman. There was nothing he couldn’t fix nor shine.
He went on to become the stage manager of the Blackfriars Repertory Theatre for many years, designing and building stages and props, and overseeing the daily operations of the actors, costumes and sets. He started his own company with his best friend, called B&D Maintenance, Inc. where he was able to design and build aspects of NYC landmark buildings. He maintained the properties of Most Holy Trinity Church in Mamaroneck, N.Y. and St. Vincent Ferrer Priory in Manhattan, N.Y., developing preventative maintenance programs and overseeing various construction projects. He worked as a mechanic for Top Hat Home Services, PeopleReady and Handy. Tom had quite an active work life but also lovingly acted as caretaker and healthcare proxy to his dear friend and priest, Father Joseph Irwin, and others.
Tom will be remembered as a devoted parent, uncle and friend. A charismatic, fun person with an amazing sense of humor who brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. A true Renaissance man who managed to live a hundred and ten lives in one lifetime. A genuine, loyal, faithful, dependable and impactful person who will be greatly missed by his niece and dozens of cousins, friends, neighbors and employers.
The wake will be held on Friday, January 21st at Fred H. McGrath & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Bronxville, N.Y. between 5-8pm with a funeral mass to follow on Saturday, January 22nd at St. Barnabas Church in Woodlawn, (Bronx) N.Y. at 10:45am.
