Gregory James Dimitriadis, Ph.D, on December 29, 2014 at the age of 45. Beloved Husband, Son, Brother, Godson, Nephew, Cousin, Educator, Writer, Mentor and Friend. The world has lost a beautiful spirit. A graduate of Fordham Prep, Greg went on to get a B.A. from Boston College, two master’s degrees from the University of Buffalo and a Ph.D from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In his research there, he was cherished as a mentor and friend to many families at the Boys’ Club of America. At University of Buffalo, Greg was an esteemed professor and an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Well-respected for his work in the field of urban education and policies which serve disenfranchised urban youth, Greg wrote numerous articles and books. He served on many doctoral committees and he guided countless students throughout the country through their studies. Greg met his beloved wife Michelle on graduate thesis defense committees and resided with her in Buffalo where they shared a great love and laughter. He is survived by his wife Michelle, his parents, Marie and James Dimitriadis, his sister, Christina, his Aunts Teresa, Niove and Georgia, and Uncles George, Jimmy and John, as well as scores of cousins. A deeply empathetic and intellectual person, he will be greatly missed by an expansive community of family, friends, students and colleagues. Calling Hours will be at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville, NY between the hours of 1 to 5pm Sunday, January 4. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Nicholas Church, Bethlehem, PA on Monday January 5, 2015 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to a memorial scholarship fund for the SUNY Buffalo Graduate School of Education. Checks can be made payable to the UB Foundation Inc.
