DeMase, William R. February 20, 1936 - October 16, 2021

William DeMase of Yonkers, New York passed away on October 16th, 2021, at the age of 85.  Bill was born February 20th, 1936, to Margaret and Joseph DeMase.  He was raised in the Belmont section of the Bronx along with his brothers Joe (deceased) and Gino.  Bill graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School and went on to be self-employed for over 40 years as a painter.  In 1961, he married the love of his life and best friend, Nancy, and together they built a life filled with love surrounded by their three children.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years Nancy, his children Linda (Michael) Walter of New Rochelle, Lauren (Mark) Cronk of New Rochelle, and William (Carolyn) DeMase of Portland, Maine.  He was affectionately known as Poppy to his three beloved grandchildren, Michael (Daniela), Brian (deceased) and Brittney, and his great granddaughter, Penelope.  He is also survived by many adored nieces and nephews.

Nothing was more important to Bill than his family and friends.  He was always there to lend a helping hand, whether it was painting your home or providing help with other projects around the house.

Bill was a warm, loving, generous, kind person who always had a smile on his face.  He loved to chat and meet people, whether in a store or just walking in the neighborhood.  Getting someone to laugh, with what could sometimes be a risqué joke, was always part of the encounter.  He brought joy wherever he went.  Bill loved to share his wonderful voice and was never shy about serenading you with a Frank Sinatra song.  Those who knew him were enriched by his friendship and generosity.  With his passing, a light has gone out in his family and friends lives which will never be replaced.

Bill was heartbroken over the loss of his grandson, Brian.  Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Brian’s Foundation of Hope.

We lived exactly two floors below you on E. 231st street, “back in the day.” My family and I will always treasure these memories, and you will always be remembered with so much love, warmth, and good humor.

Our thoughts and prayers are with this loving family. No event was complete without a joke from Bill. Great voice, wonderful sense of humor and unparalleled love for his family. I remember painting the NJ beach house with Bill many years ago…he gave me many tips that I still use today.
    Rest in peace,
    Vinny and Christine.
