Maureen Finnigan Curran, wife of deceased Yonkers Firefighter, James Joseph Curran passed away on February 21st, 2020.
She is survived by their only daughter, Maureen Baltazar, her husband Scott Baltazar and two grandchildren, Parker Kent Baltazar and Morgan Colette Baltazar.
Maureen was born in 1935 in Long Island City, New York and was the daughter to Edward and Margret Finnigan and sister to Edward jr. She was a graduate of Fordham University, and went on to teach for the U.S. Army at an Elementary School in Wertheim, Germany. In the early 1960’s, upon returning to New York, she resumed her teaching career with the New York City Public School system. First in Brooklyn at PS 145 and then later at PS 189 in Washington Heights. She retired in 1998.
Maureen was a devoted wife for 33 years. She was a remarkable Mother and Grandmother sharing constantly her love, affection and admiration. She enjoyed shopping, gardening, knitting, and vacationing at the lake in the Adirondacks. Spending time with her grandchildren… reading to them, bringing them to the farm, making costumes for their school performances and attending sports activities all gave her great pleasure.
Calling Hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, between the hours of 5 to 8pm Monday. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, February 25th at 9:45 am at Saint Joseph’s Church in Bronxville.
Maureen will be buried alongside her husband at Gate of Heaven in Valhalla, New York.
