Karen M. Coneys of Bronxville, New York, passed away on September 16, 2016, after a lengthy campaign against non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Miss Coneys was 59 years old. During her more than twenty years with ABC Carpet & Home, the New York-headquartered carpet, rug and home furnishings retailer, Miss Coneys ascended to the position of Vice President, Chief Financial Officer. Previously, she had been Vice-President-Comptroller of The Conran Stores, Inc., the former national home furnishings retailer. Miss Coneys was a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the New York State Society of CPAs. In 1978, Miss Coneys graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. Miss Coneys was the Managing Editor of The IONIAN, the college’s weekly student newspaper. Miss Coneys was a 1974 graduate of the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula, Bronx, New York. For many years, Miss Coneys sponsored a scholarship for one needy young lady at a time to attend the Academy. In addition, Miss Coneys was a 1970 graduate of the Annunciation School in Crestwood (Yonkers), New York. During her lifetime, Miss Coneys was a generous donor and supporter for numerous Catholic and non-sectarian charities, and during her battle with lymphoma rediscovered her love of crocheting to make blankets for other cancer patients. Since 1974, Miss Coneys was a member of the Coveleigh Club in Rye, New York, where she excelled at tennis and platform tennis. During the last fifteen years of her life, Miss Coneys uncovered and nurtured a talent for highly detailed pen-and-ink drawings. Miss Coneys’s subjects were found in nature and rustic country structures particularly in and around the Shawangunk Mountains where her favorite vacation spot is located, namely, Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York. Miss Coneys was born in Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA on November 4, 1956. She is survived by her loving parents, John F. Coneys and Ann Frierson Coneys of Bronxville, New York, and her devoted brothers Walter J. Coneys of Yorktown Heights, New York, and Michael P. Coneys of Bronxville, New York.
