John McVicar Clarkson, 73, died January 27, 2022, with family by his side.
John was born on October 10, 1948, in Glasgow Scotland to John and Margaret (Cochrane) Clarkson.
A true Scottish, John was a smart and a wonderful conversationalist. He was a proud Scot who bragged about the Scottish discoveries and inventions and will forever convince you that modern technology started in Scotland. John was loving and caring person. He was also sweet, generous, and kind. He enjoyed playing sports such as rugby, golf, and tennis. Although his passion for golf was well-known, very few knew that he also ran the marathon.
John retired from the United Nations at the age of 60 and worked with FAO in Rome and UNDP in Copenhagen. Among his major achievements with the UN include leading the refurbishment of its New York headquarters campus (the Capital Master Plan or CMP). John was admired and respected by colleagues and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Wally, son David; brother Andrew Clarkson (Barbara), nephews, Graham (Karyn), Gary (Elizabeth) and an extended heartbroken family.
The family of John would like to extend profound appreciation to everyone who reached out to us with condolences in prayers, generosity and by keeping us in their thoughts. Your kind words and gestures have helped us during our time of bereavement and have been a reminder how John was to all of us. The family will cherish his memory.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, 9:45AM at The Church of St Joseph, followed by small reception at J.C. Fogarty’s. All friends and family are welcome.
In lieu of any kind of gifts, the family has requested to please make your contributions to Parkinson’s Unity Walk
