Dorothy Bunyan’s Obituary
Dorothy (Buhl) Bunyan, 87, passed away on November 5, 2019 in her home on City Island. She is now present with The Lord, and reunited with her loving husband, John Patrick, who predeceased her in 2007.Dorothy leaves behind four children, namely Michael, John, Dorothy and Richard. In-laws include Roseann, Linda, Peggy and Marie. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren Jamie, Michael, Cara, Roseann, Johnny, Richard, Jack, Michael, Christopher, Matthew and Andrew. In addition, Dorothy lived to see eight great grandchildren John, Andreia, Christina, Gerard, Nicholas, Everly, Josephine, and Charlize. Dorothy also leaves behind her niece Judy (Wright) Rauh and her husband Michael, niece Barbara Howard, her nephew John Wright and his wife Linda, as well as many other loved ones and friends. Dorothy was born on September 9, 1932 and lived on City Island for most of her life. She was born to Veronica Roche and Charles Buhl, and had three sisters, Veronica, Florence and Marian, all of whom predeceased her. Dorothy attended St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Grammar School on City Island, and Cathedral High School in Manhattan. She worked at Beth Abraham Nursing Home as an administrative assistant, and later became the Personnel Director at The House of the Holy Comforter Nursing Home in The Bronx. She was then recruited to serve as an assistant to the executive director of The Osborne Home in Rye, New York, where she also served as secretary on the Board of Directors. After her retirement, she spent many happy years with her husband, John, in Florida and then in Whiting, New Jersey, before returning to City Island to be near her family and friends. Dorothy will lie in repose on Friday, November 8th, 2019 at the Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home, located at 20 Cedar Street, Bronxville, N.Y. 10708, telephone #914-337-6770, from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm. Her funeral will be held the next day, on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at 10:30 am at the Trinity United Methodist Church, located at 331 City Island Avenue (corner of Bay Street and City Island Avenue) on City Island, Bronx, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to Dorothy’s favorite charity, Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc., 371 East Jericho Turnpike, Smithtown, NY 11787-2976.
