Dr. Tara Elizabeth Brennan, 54, of Bronxville, New York, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, after a valiant 14-month battle with glioblastoma. She was born in Portland, Maine on August 8, 1971 to Joseph E. Brennan and Mary Kathryn (Gonya) Brennan.
Tara will be remembered for her extraordinary empathy, kindness and ability to make others feel seen. Her greatest joy and accomplishment in life was her family: her devoted husband Carles Farre, her beloved sons Xavier and Lluc, and her cherished bonus stepson Marti Farre-Regincos.
Tara and Carles began their family in Brooklyn and moved to Bronxville, NY in 2020, a community Tara grew to love. As a family, they shared a home full of love, laughter and boundless energy.
Drawn to helping others, Tara earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Long Island University while raising her young family. She built a private practice and served on the staff at The Counseling Center in Bronxville and Herald Square Psychology in NYC. Known for her compassion and insight, Tara touched countless lives, a fact evidenced by the outpouring from friends and family during her many hospitalizations.
Tara spent her childhood in Princeton and Cranbury, New Jersey, and her holidays and summer vacations with her extended family in Maine. She graduated with the second class of female students admitted to the previously all-male Lawrenceville School. After graduating from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, Tara worked briefly in the U.S. Senate Radio-Television Gallery in Washington, DC and then at OppenheimerFunds in New York. During that time, she continued her studies part time at the Alliance Francaise and Hunter College and volunteered with the Suicide Hotline.
Tara was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Brennan, former Governor and U.S. Congressman of Maine, and her father-in-law, Jordi Farre, formerly of Tarragona, Spain. Tara is survived by her loving husband Carles and sons Xavier, Lluc and Marti, her mother Mary Kathryn Brennan, stepfather William (Bill) Oliver, brother Joseph (JB) Brennan, stepmother Connie LaPointe Brennan, mother-in-law Maria Teresa Carbonell of Vila-rodona, Spain, stepsisters Kimberly Oliver (Stuart Sclater-Booth) and Amy Oliver (Jacques Brouchier), brothers-in-law Jordi Farre (Elisenda Orpinell) and Lluis Farre (Silvia Escude), sisters-in-law Maria Teresa Farre (late Francesc De Fuentes) and Carme Farre (Randy Sesson). Tara was blessed with many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Her loving warmth and spirit will be deeply missed.
The Farre-Brennan family are grateful for the extraordinary compassionate care that Tara received at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and, in her final months, at Calvary Hospital, and extend their thanks to all for their commitment and service to others.
Calling hours will be held at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home at 20 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY on Thursday, September 18 from 4pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 19 at 10:45am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 15 Cedar Street, Bronxville.

September 17, 2025 at 5:15 pmTara was the most adorable and beautiful little girl I have ever known. We spent our summers growing up at our grandmother’s house and she became my little sister. She was always asking how and why things were the way they are, such as, “Why is the sky blue?” Her magical curiosity continued throughout her life as she tried to solve problems and sought for social justice.
As we grew up, we traveled Europe together, frequently visited each other in her beloved NYC, and my hometown near Washington, D.C. We had more adventures and laugh than imaginable and were together through good times and bad.
I was grateful to spend so much time with her during her illness where we talked about her concerns for her family and prayed together. Carles and the boys were everything to her, and she wants them to be happy and know they can always talk to her through prayer. Carles could not have been more devoted to her, especially during her illness.
She was so appreciative of the care she was given and was so gracious during her illness.
I am heartbroken for her family. I imagine her in Heaven, where she was greeted by the arms of God, finally getting the answers to life that she was always trying to understand. I miss my very special cousin Tara and she will always be in my heart. I love you Tara. 🩷🙏🌹

Right away, I could sense Tara’s warmth and caring nature. It was clear that she was the heart of the family, holding them together with love and joy, and giving Carles strength through his busy schedule. I grieve deeply for her family’s loss and extend my heartfelt condolences to Carles and the boys. May Tara rest in peace, and may God bless Carles and his family in this difficult time.

January 4, 2026 at 2:54 amI met Tara in 1992, while she was studying French at the Alliance Française in Paris. Meeting her profoundly transformed my outlook and the course of my life. From a once-certain future in France, I became inspired to learn English—a decision that, by 1994, enabled me to work as an intern at the US Senate, apparently at a time when Tara was also working there. This journey led me to pursue an LLM, pass the New York Bar, and ultimately work across foreign lands. If I had not met Tara, for sure, none of this would have happened.
Though it has been 33 years since I last saw her, what remains most vivid in my memory is her unwavering kindness, infectious enthusiasm, and boundless generosity. She had a way of bringing happiness and light wherever she went.
I would have loved to say goodbye to her. In Paris and Portland, she was an exceptional person.
My deepest condolences to her family and all those who loved her.
