James H. Bowe, born August 5, 1934 in Manhattan, New York, passed on April 17, 2021 of natural causes. A loving son to Henry Bowe and Mary née McCardle, brother to Rose Marie and Howie, husband to Mary née Kelleher, father to Michael, grandfather to Patrick, and uncle and friend to many. Jim spent 25 years on the F.D.N.Y during the “War Years” as a fireman in Ladder 23 in Harlem and then a Lieutenant in Ladder 36 in Inwood. Jim fought his last fire on March 5, 1982 when he was severely burned trying to save a crippled woman from a fifth story apartment and then saving one of his crew lost in the same apartment when it flashed. He then began a new career as Rockland County’s go-to jack of all trades, constructing, wiring, plumbing and at times hanging priceless modern art in Saddle River, N.J. (sometimes upside down). He was an absolutely dedicated and selfless son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, in-law, and friend to anyone in need. A passionate fisherman, Jim could catch fish in a tub. He had a deep quiet faith. He will be missed by all who knew him, and welcomed by those who went before him. Rest In Peace. Calling Hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville between the hours of 4 to 8 pm, Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville on Friday, April 23 at 9:45am.
