Mary Elizabeth K. Black, called Junie by her friends and family, age 97, a 25 year resident of Rye, NY, 50 year resident of Bronxville, NY, and 20 year resident of Pawleys Island SC, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday November 13th in Columbia, SC. Born in Rye, NY on December 10, 1919, Mary was the daughter of Daniel E. and Mary Elizabeth Bourne Kelly. Mary was raised in Rye and graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 1942. Mary married her husband, Leonard F. Black, in May 1943. Mary and Len moved to Bronxville, NY, in 1945, where they raised their 6 children. Len worked for Time Inc. up until his death of Leukemia in 1963. Mary was an active parishioner of Saint Joseph’s Church in Bronxville and worked as an office manager at the Bronxville Women’s Club before retiring to South Carolina in 1994. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by their son, Gregory B. Black, and Mary’s sisters, Gwendolyn K. McManus and Carol K. Gretemeyer. She is survived by her sons, Leonard W. Black and his wife Sheelah of New Orleans LA, Philip K. Black of Mount Vernon, NY; as well as her daughters Katherine A. Tjarks of Randolph, NJ, Meribeth W. Moore and her husband Robert of Columbia, SC, and Nancy A. Black of Anaheim, CA. Mary is also survived by her brother Daniel E. Kelly, Jr., and his wife Florence (Flossie) Kelly of Norwalk, CT. Other surviving family members include her grandsons Gerard L. Sartori and his wife Elizabeth of Hackettstown, NJ, Tucker Walton and his wife Maureen of Broomfield, CO, Timothy Black of Oakland, CA, Andrew Moore of Nashville, TN; Daniel Black of Anaheim, CA; Brad Moore of Houston, TX, Scott and his wife Lynn Moore of Chapel Hill, NC, as well as her granddaughters Megan Sartori of Laconia, NH, Sarah Black of New York, NY, Kelly Mangiagli and her husband Jason of Anaheim, CA; her great-grandchildren, Gerardi and Abby Sartori, Peter and Jack Christensen, Teddy, Claire and Elizabeth Walton, Jordan Moore and Alex McGee, as well as several nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Joseph’s Church, Bronxville, NY on December 10th at 10:45 AM.
