Celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date
Warren Barbour, a resident of Bronxville for 59 years, died Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 in his home, surrounded by family. He was born in New York, NY on June 9th, 1926 to the late Elysabeth Carrere Barbour Welsh and the late William Warren Barbour, who was a US Senator from New Jersey and the amateur heavyweight boxing champion in 1910. He attended The Arizona Desert School, followed by The Hill School and upon graduation joined the U.S. Coast Guard, ultimately achieving the rank of Gunner’s Mate. After his service, he attended Yale University, graduating in 1950. His early career was in human resources, but he was most proud of his role as President and CEO of Adler Barbour Yacht Services, a company that designed and manufactured marine refrigeration. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Deborah Platt Barbour, and his sisters, Elysabeth Higgins and Sharon Rhett. He is survived by his three daughters, Leigh Barbour Deehan, Paige Barbour Davis, Alexis Barbour-Webb, and grandchildren Lyssa, Gavin, Carson, Riley, Wyatt, Rhys, and Kyle. He is also survived by second wife, Joan Barbour and her family. He took pleasure in life’s simple things; he loved being on the water, watching westerns and reading about naval history. He enjoyed good conversation and had a wry sense of humor. He was a modest and humble man, loved and respected by everyone who knew him. Most of all, he will be remembered for his generous heart and his long vivid stories; he will be sorely missed.
