Memorial Service: 11 am, Friday, April 29, 2016, Christ Church Bronxville
Virginia McCartney Newcombe, 92, of Rye and formerly of the Yonkers/Bronxville area, died on April 23rd, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Gordon I. Newcombe, loving mother of David (Barbara), Sarah (Fred) Sullo, Andrew (Chris) and Martha (Jeff) Reed, devoted grandmother of Jeremiah, Micah, Elijah, Rhiannon, Elizabeth, Amy, Grace, Mary, Emma and Julia and two great grandchildren. After graduating from the University of Mary Washington in three years, she was recruited by the US Government to work as a cryptologist where she helped break the Russia code. She later became a teacher, initially teaching French, then severely disabled children and eventually pre-k for 22 years at the Reform Church Nursery School. There will be a memorial service at Christ Church in Bronxville on Friday, April 29th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ Church, Bronxville.
