Bernard Posner was born in the Bronx, New York to Irene Kuriansky (Konrad) and Max Posner, immigrants from Grodno and Warsaw, respectively. He was raised in Mount Vernon, NY and attended AB Davis High School. He received a Bachelor’s degree in economics from NYU School of Commerce and served as a company clerk in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon exiting the Army, Bernard pursued a law degree from Brooklyn Law School and practiced at the law firm of Kavanaugh & Konrad until his retirement.
Bernie believed in service to others and was a member of many civic organizations including the Mount Vernon Rotary Club and the Mount Vernon Lions Club. He served as both Treasurer and Director of the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Mount Vernon United Way, and President of Eastchester Bar Association.
Bernie was married to Jacqueline Anne Cohen for ten years and lived in Eastchester, NY for sixty years. He enjoyed biking, hiking, traveling with family and friends, and going to the gym. Bernie made friends wherever he went and found community with his breakfast club and his gym friends. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. He never missed a chance to take them Trick-or-Treating, to the park, zoo, or mall, and was always available to give advice.
He was predeceased in death by his parents and his sister, Muriel Weinreb. He is survived by his sons: Ken (Michelle) and Michael Posner; niece, Sharon (Ira) Calderon; nephew, Howard Weinreb; his beloved grandchildren: Lillian, Ethan, and Rachel; and countless friends.
Visitation is 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 15 at Fred McGrath & Son Funeral Home 20 Cedar St. Bronxville, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Wounded Warriors Project or Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
