Frank, a longtime resident of Bronxville, passed away on July 3, 2021 at the age of 100. Most recently, he lived at The Fountains at Rivervue in Tuckahoe with his wife, Ann, who survives him and to whom he was married for 73 years.
Frank served in the Army in World War II, rising to the rank of Corporal, and was stationed in North Africa, Corsica and Italy. After returning home from serving overseas, he attended Pratt Institute and went on to have a long career as a commercial artist, including working for the American Can Company for over 30 years. In his retirement, Frank did extensive graphic design work for local businesses and volunteered his artistic talents to the Church of St. Joseph in Bronxville, where he had been a longtime parishioner.
Frank and Ann had two children – the late Denise (Tony) Montaruli and John (Beth) Caruso. He has five grandchildren – Anthony (Julie), Mark (Melissa), Amy Rose, Carolyn and Michael – and two great-grandchildren – Nicholas and Noah.
A kind, warm-hearted man, Frank’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank was an avid reader and stayed current on everything from world events to pop culture; his ability to recount in vivid detail his life and historical events spanning a century was awe-inspiring. Frank also enjoyed watching YouTube clips of Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show and the other great TV shows on his iPad.
When asked about his secret to longevity, Frank’s response was simple: “One Absolut Vodka martini a day, just one, with a drop of vermouth and no fruit!”
He was a consummate gentleman who was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Calling Hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville between the hours of 6 to 8pm on Tuesday July 6. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville on Wednesday, July 7 at 10:45am.

July 19, 2021 at 12:13 pmI knew Frank when he worked with Whitey (forgotten his last name) at American Can’s art department in Manhattan. Frank’s great artistic ability and the trust our customers had in him contributed to many sales. I recall him working frequently with Denny Roberts. Frank was regular SOTS (Selected Old Timers Society) member at our CT luncheons. Our sympathy to Mrs. Caruso and family from the SOTS.
