Garrivan, Mary Alice December 23, 1930 - May 28, 2019

Mary Alice Garrivan, age 88, of Bronxville, NY, passed away on May 28, 2019.  She was born on July 27, 1930 in Devlin, County Mayo, Ireland to the late James and Alice Garavan.   She was the loving sister of Sr. Mary Xavier and Patrick (Josephine).  Mary Alice was preceded in death by her sisters Bessie (James Fitzgerald), Ann (Patrick Conroy), and Eileen (Peter Staunton), and brothers Michael (Cecelia), John (Theresa), Anthony (Breda), and James.   Mary Alice was the dear friend and companion of the late John Martin. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews, family, and friends. Mary Alice immigrated to the United States, settled in New York City, and became a US citizen in 1955   She had a long, successful career at New York Telephone where she served in a variety of roles including Operator Services. In 1984, Mary Alice moved to Bronxville. After her retirement from the phone company, she served as a volunteer at New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital for over 25 years and received recognition for having served the second highest number of volunteer hours in the history of the hospital. She traveled extensively around the world for pleasure, including visiting family in Ireland, the U.K, and Australia. She will be missed by all who knew her.

    We all loved Mary very much. She will be greatly missed. Not only was Mary a dear friend of my Father, John Martin, she has also been a beloved friend of his children and grandchildren for many years. We will all miss her.
