John Francis Gunn
March 26, 1950 – May 24, 2018
John Gunn, 68, passed away on May 24, 2018, at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, after a lengthy illness. John was born on March 26, 1950 at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, New York. Growing up in Eastchester, New York, John graduated from Iona Prep and then attended Villanova University. It was during his first week at Villanova that he met his future wife, Anne Stanley. He is survived by Anne and their four children, J.P. (and wife Rachel), Elizabeth, William, and Robert. John was the brothers of Bob, Phil (and wife Laura), and the late Gene Gunn.
Following Villanova, John moved back to New York where he took over his father’s insurance brokerage. Thereafter he owned and ran the business for 32 years before retiring in 2006. John and Anne were married in 1985, and moved to Bronxville in 1989 to raise their family. He will be remembered for his ebullient humor, warm stories, and overflowing pride in his wife and children, his alma mater, and his Irish and Scottish heritage. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Viewing hours will be 5-8 pm on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home in Bronxville, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 31, at 10:45 am at St. Joseph’s Church in Bronxville. Burial will take place directly after at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
