Joseph M. Citrone, Sr. peacefully passed away at age 87 after a year long battle with cancer. Joe was born on April 6, 1928 on Good Friday, in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1951 he married his high school sweetheart, the former Marie A. Prizzi, at St. Simon and Jude, also in Brooklyn. Joe was a commercial building manager for several well known skyscrapers in Manhattan until his retirement in 1993. Joe was an avid sports fan, never missing the games of his beloved Yankees. In his retirement Joe was able to indulge in many of his most favorite pursuits–among them an enthusiasm for motorcycle riding, fine dining, traveling, and spending as much time as he could in his 2nd home in Hampton Bays. Retirement also allowed Joe to spend many hours pursuing a life long hobby–painting hundreds of oil paintings, mostly landscapes and homes. Joe’s paintings have sold at charity auctions and have been featured in the Annual Southampton Art shows and in the library at Hampton Bays. Joe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie and by his children, Mary Grace Citrone, Christopher Citrone, Barbara Citrone Soldano, and Joseph Citrone; and their significant others Dianne, Debra, Joe, and Tricia. Predeceasing Joe was his eldest daughter, Louise Citrone Scharf. Joe is also survived by seven grandchildren–Carolyn Scharf Gilson and her husband James, Laura Scharf, Michael Soldano, Andrew Scharf, Kate Citrone, Joseph Citrone, and Victoria Citrone; and three great-grandchildren–Natalie, James and Alex Gilson. Also surviving is his brother, Anthony Citrone and several nieces and nephews. Memorial hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville, between the hours of 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville, on Thursday April 30 at 9:45 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Joe’s name to Calvary Hospital, 1760 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY.
