GREENE, MARIE (JOHNSTON)
Marie Greene of Bronxville died peacefully on December 8, 2014.
Marie worked for the Archdiocese of New York until her retirement in 1991. Originally from the Bronx, Marie was a very active member of St. Ann’s Parish. She enjoyed lecturing there very much. She later moved to Bronxville and was active in St. Joseph’s Parish as a dedicated Eucharistic Minister. Marie was born in Knock, County Mayo, Ireland to James and Ellie (Morley) Johnston. She attended Knock National School and St. Louis Convent Secondary School in Kiltimagh, County Mayo. She worked in Dublin, Ireland until she emigrated to America in 1961. Marie will be dearly missed by her sisters: Bridget Carmody of Pearl River, NY, Nora Jennings and Peg O’Connell of County Mayo, Ireland. Sr. Helen Johnston, and Sr. Louise Johnston of Torquay, England, and her brother Tom Johnston of London England. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Michael Greene in 1987 and her loving brother Richard Johnston in 2009. Loving aunt of Sean Carmody (Julie), Marguarite Carmody (Jim Yedinak), and Eileen Byman (Kevin) locally and to many nieces and nephews in Ireland and England. Proud grandaunt of Emma, Kyle and Ryan Yedinak, Aidan and Jesse Carmody, and Sean, Luke and Abby Byman. Calling hours are Thursday, December 18th, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home in Bronxville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 11:00 am, at St. Joseph’s Church in Bronxville, NY. Internment in Ireland.
