Peter Reynolds, a devoted son, brother, uncle, and esteemed attorney, passed away on October 26, 2025, in Jefferson Valley, New York, at the age of 58.
Born on January 19, 1967, in the Bronx, New York, Peter was the beloved son of the late Patrick Devere and Ann (McDermott) Reynolds. A proud lifelong New Yorker, Peter was a dedicated student and a true man of Fordham—earning his education at Fordham Preparatory School, Fordham University, and Fordham Law School. Achieving the status of “Triple Ram” was a point of quiet pride and a reflection of his intellect, integrity, and commitment to service.
Peter built a respected career in law, known among his colleagues for his sharp mind, unwavering ethics, and genuine kindness. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Peter was very proud of his Irish heritage. He enjoyed donating his time to Tipperary and Offaly functions here in New York.
He was a man of deep loyalty and quiet generosity—always ready with sound advice, a warm laugh, or a helping hand.
He is survived by his devoted sisters, Laurie (Sean) Flanagan and Doreen (Jeff) Meyer; and his cherished nieces and nephews, Liam, Brendan, Katherine, Lauren, Caitlin, Michael, and William—each of whom he loved dearly and supported with great pride.
Peter’s life was marked by faith, family, and the belief that doing good was its own reward. His steady presence and thoughtful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A wake will be held Wednesday October 29 2025 4-7pm at McGrath Funeral Home, Bronxville NY. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday October 30 2025 9:45 am at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Peter’s memory to Make A Wish Foundation.

On behalf of the County Tipperary N. & B. Association of New York, we wish to offer our sincerest condolences to Laurie and Doreen and the entire Reynolds Family on the passing of Peter; a brother, uncle, son, cousin, nephew, and friend. Peter’s late father, Devere, was a longtime member of the Association and passed on his love for Tipperary to his children and grandchildren. Peter was a wonderful, sincere, and humble person. Additionally, he was a great supporter of the Association and always attended our events, particularly the dinner dances, parades, and field days. We shall miss Peter very much. God rest his gentle soul.

Peter Reynolds joined the Putnam County Legal Aid Society as a Senior Staff Attorney in January 2025. (I suspect that many members of the local legal community, who held him in such esteem, are still wondering how I managed to finagle such a “huge get.” I’m not telling.) Pete had been a member of our Board of Trustees for decades; he was committed to our mission, and from day one, he made this office a better place. He brought his intelligence, his dedication, his humility, his wit, his warmth, his kindness, his cooking, and his simply wonderful self. He was a breath of fresh air around here, and we knew how lucky we were. Pete was a consummate gentleman and a scholar, and the absolute best trivia teammate a person could have. He knew SO MUCH. About movies, about sports, about music, about history. . . I could go on and on about the depth and breadth of his knowledge. But more than his intellect and legal acumen, what I admired about Pete most was his even-temperedness and his bone-deep DECENCY. Such a tribute to his parents–and grandparents–about whom he spoke often. He also spoke frequently, lovingly, and admiringly about his sisters and their families. I still can’t quite process that when I wished him a good weekend last Friday, and he wished me the same, that those were the last words we’d exchange. His office at Legal Aid is across the hall from mine, and it is crushing to see it unoccupied. What a difference he made here in a scant ten months! And what a difference he made overall. I am honored to have known and worked with him: “a true perfect knight of noble character”. Godspeed, Pete. This office was immeasurably enhanced by your presence.

I have known Peter for 20 years and worked with him on and off during that time. I was so thrilled to have finally work side by side with him during the past year. I told him its about time we get to work with eachother. There was such a presence when he walked in the room. He lit the room up with his smile and laughter wearing his well thought out wardrobe. Always willing to give a helping hand to whatever you needed. The coordinator in the many planned trips especially to Mohegan Sun where he introduced me to Duck Dynasty for the very first time and I have been hooked ever since. He always spoke about his family (especially his sisters and nieces and nephews) and was very proud of his Irish heritage. Friday night he sat at our table at the SPCA dinner full of jokes and laughter. Everyone will deeply miss you. Rest easy my friend.

To Pete’s family, please accept my heartfelt condolences. I had the pleasure of being opposite Pete on a number of cases through the years and he was always a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was kind, genuine, and a pleasure to speak with. Pete was one of the good ones, and he will be greatly missed.
