James M. McGovern, age 76, of Bronxville, NY, passed away on March 12, 2014. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Michael McGovern and Mary Lynch McGovern. Jim worked for the New York State Department of Transportation as the Resident Engineer in lower Westchester for 38 years. A proud graduate and supporter of Manhattan College, Mr. McGovern continued his education at New York University, earning his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1965. Jim fostered many friendships over the years as a student and parishioner at St. Nicholas of Tolentine in the Bronx. Mr. McGovern is survived by his wife, Margaret McGovern (nee Weinbrecht), of Bronxville, NY; daughter Dr. Catherine McGovern and husband, John Papazian, of White Plains, NY; son Michael McGovern and wife, Virginia, of Westport, CT; daughter Elizabeth Sheehan and husband, Christopher, of Mount Vernon, NY; son James McGovern and wife, Bianka, of Tuckahoe, NY; son Brendan McGovern of New York, NY; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Grace, Allison and James McGovern, Luke and James Papazian, Sophie, Christian and Alanna Sheehan, and Paul McGovern; and his sister, Patricia McGovern, of Ft. Lee, NJ. In addition to his parents, his brother, Michael, predeceased James. A mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bronxville, NY, on Monday, March 17, 2014, with Fr. Peter McGeory officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may contribute to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004 and the Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt at 496 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY 10913.
