Duke, Else August 31, 1933 - November 23, 2023

Else Duke of Pompton Plains, NJ died on November 23, 2023 at the age of 90.  She was born on August 31, 1933 in Schramberg, Germany.  Her life was influenced by world events as a child and young adult.  In post war Europe, she met her husband, Anton, and the ambitious young couple immigrated to the United States in 1956.

They established a base in the New York City area, and in short order established a well respected network of German bakeries located throughout the greater Jackson Heights, NY community.  Eventually, their business ventures expanded into the communications and television production industry in New York City.

Else Duke, or “Oma” as she was lovingly referred to, balanced work at the different businesses with that of being a loving Mother, Grandmother and  recently Great Grandmother.  She was adored by all who interacted with her.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, and daughter – along with their spouses, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren and her four sisters whose relationships she cherished.  A son predeceased her.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in Else’s memory to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
