Patrick M. Murphy, Sr., formerly of Pelham Manor, New York, died comfortably Wednesday morning, January 22, 2014, in his home in Marstons Mills, Massachusetts, after a prolonged illness. He was 62 years of age. Born March 7, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland. The family relocated to Pelham, New York in 1952. Upon graduation from Pelham Memorial High School in 1969, he attended St. Francis College, in Biddeford, Maine, before receiving his Bachelors degree at Iona in New Rochelle, New York, in 1973. As a young man, he was perhaps best known for his accomplishments as a singer and musician and could often be found performing in popular venues in and around New York City and his beloved Westchester. “Murph” as affectionately known, was also a lover of ocean and beach life and was a lifetime member of Huguenot Yacht Club, where he could often be found with his guitar in the company of family and friends. In 1984, he embarked on a 30 year financial career as a bond trader, beginning with Lebenthal & Company in Manhattan, where he rose to a Vice President’s position. He moved to Cape Cod in 2004 and later, in 2005 assumed a Vice President’s Position at Merrill Lynch. He enjoyed a happy and peaceful life in Cape Cod, recording music his studio and caring for his beloved wife and family. A devout family man, he is survived by his wife, Mary Joan Murphy. They had recently celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary last June. Also surviving him are his brother; Charles Jefferson Murphy, Jr., his sister; Gail Murphy-Cmejla and his sons; Patrick Murphy, Jr., Steven Lilly and Brenden McClain, alone with his three grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Kellie-Anne and parents Mada Gail and Charles Jefferson Murphy. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Patrick’s name to the Kellie-Anne Murphy Memorial Fund. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville on Thursday, January 30th, 5 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 31st at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Bronxville, NY at 10 am.
