Jim & I send our heartfelt condolences on the passing of our beloved Malu.
She was a fairy who sprinkled large servings of Kindness, Generosity & Grace on everyone who enjoyed her friendship. She had a magic wand that could conjure up what exists only in most people ‘s minds as a fantasy. Her parties could rival any in the Gilded Age or Downtown Abbey.
When God made Malu, he threw away the mold.
God bless your family & may the day come whrn you can ease your grief in the knowledge that everyone loved your daughter & sister.
I embrace you all on this saddest of days.
We may never see the likes of Malu again. Let us remember only the wonderful times she shared with us.

Mali’s passing felt like one of our own left us. The Estrellas were like family to us. Their parents were very good friends of our own.
Happy times n memories were made . My son n I had been at Bronxville once during his college days at Fordham. It was like we were one family having a reunion.
Mali, now you are with our parents n your Dad. Know you left this world a better place through love of your children n your siblings. You are now at peace .

I will never forget the the kindness she extended to me on my visits to NYC and her the love and support she provided to our dear friend Tony Newton for the difficult times he had following Glenn’s passing and his own health issues. I will miss your Mom.
Today I had a really good cry because it finally hit me that she won’t be there the next time I call her when I’m in New York.
If we her friends feel so devastated, we cannot possibly fathom how you are feeling.
Please know that your Mom lived for you. You were the most important thing in her life. Your well-being & happiness was all she ever wanted. She was so proud of each & every one of you & always talked about your achievements & the funny things you did.
I remember playing “patintero” with you when you were children. . . in your backyard in Rabat. Your Mom played like she was a child.
And we had in a way grown up together because our parents were old friends, my brothers classmates with your uncles Maling & Gabby, my sister played with your aunts Corky & Chelo when they were small children.
I wish I could pick up the phone & ring you & tell you how I admired your Mom’s strength & capacity to live life to the fullest.
She was a do-gooder.
She was artistic.
She was creative.
She was a superb conversationalist.
She was a sublime hostess.
She was absolutely beautiful !
This is how I will remember her—
Only the fun times, the happy times, the wondrous days waking up at 4:30 am in Rabat & travelling with her up to Volubilis to see the archeological sites & mosaics at dawn; shopping in Fez & Medina;
picnicking at the farm just the two of us; sharing the large silver platters of couscous & bastilya at many candle-lit dinners, under a tent with our toes stuck in the cool sand in front your beach house in Morocco & in the enchanting Moroccan room of your beautiful home in Bronxville.
We hope you have a good life
& live by your mother’s legacy of kindness & generosity & gracious, warm hospitality.
I will never forget her loyal friendship through almost 50 years – hard to imagine I knew her that long because in my mind she will always be young and beautiful forever.
God bless her.
God bless you & I hope to see you again in the future so we can recount the wonderful days spent with your Mom.
And I always believe we will see each other on the Other Side. . . where she will be waiting for us with a feast laid out for a King that she always had.

How could we not enjoy the times with you? You made sure that plates and especially wine glasses were full, that we would sing or dance the night away and that everyone would have a wonderful time. Every time we would say good bye, you didn’t want it to end. You are my peg for beautiful flower arrangements, gorgeous tablescapes, wonderfully decorated interiors and sumptuous food. Looking back now, every moment, every meal or trip was a celebration of life! We will always remember the fun times and celebrate the life you lived. July 2, 2021 at 4:34 amMalu liked to introduce me to people that I’d meet for the first time as, “Her best friend from 2nd grade.” I used to worry that people would think it was such a inane fact. But it used to make us laugh after because through the years we remained good friends even if our lives took us in different directions.
I never forgot her, and thankfully she never forgot me. When I had problems, she would always listen. She never called me and I knew it was because she was always so busy with so many projects. But when I did call, she would call me back and give me advice and cheer me up. Once I told her that she was more of a sister to me than my own sisters, and she promptly told me to count my blessings and to respect and value my family, no matter what. She saw the good in people, never bad.
Everyone knew Malu as the perfect hostess. The magnificent tablescapes, delicious food, and the bright and interesting people in her dinners and parties. But my memories of her will be after the celebrations. When her family would retire for the evening and she would sneak into my guest room to ask what I thought, see if I was comfortable, and then hurry back to make sure she wasn’t missed. Past the beauty and the entertaining, all the people who knew her will voice the same thing. She was a true and loyal friend who went out of her way to make sure that everyone mattered whether you had a million or a penny in your pocket.
Now no one will be able to experience her generous heart and the full extent of her goodness. She deserves to be remembered, she will be loved still, and I will remember her forever.
For her children, Marjana, Mekki, Moullay, Maia and their families, I pray that one day we can look back and rejoice in your Mom’s life because she made a difference to so many people’s lives, especially mine.
And for the Estrella’s, thank you for welcoming me into you family so often. I join in your grief, but I know Malu is at peace, and as usual, watching over all of us. God Bless.

The grief we feel now, as we accept that Malu is no longer in New York, ready to welcome us as she always so graciously does, is not simply because she has passed away. It is because we love her. There was so much about her to love! We will never forget her generous, thoughtful, loving and caring ways. By example, she has shown us to be more than we were — transforming us to who we are now. That is her legacy. I hope that it lives on in her children, family and friends.
Farewell, Malu. May Mama Mary, the angels and saints, and our loving and merciful God welcome you into heaven. May you enjoy the bountiful feasts prepared for you. May you also soar, dancing on clouds with the angels, and may you rest in eternal peace.
