Nora Theresa Huvane (nee Noone), 91, formerly of the Bronx and East Durham, New York passed away peacefully at her home in Tuckahoe NY, surrounded by her loving family, on April 22, 2021.
The daughter of James (Jim) and Delia Noone, born in Cloonbrisk, Garrafrauns, County Galway, Ireland. Nora immigrated to New York in 1948 where she met her loving husband and best friend of 60 years, James (Jim) of Irishtown, County Mayo, Ireland, who passed away in July of 2012.
Nora is survived by her sister Mary Scott and pre-deceased by her sister Margaret (Peggy).
Nora is also survived by her five loving children, Tom (Barbara), Jim(Mary), Marion McGinty (John), Stephen (Kathy) and John (Hata) She adored her thirteen grandchildren: James, Jimmy, Catherine, Mary, Kaitlin, Noreen, Thomas, Eilish, Danny, Meaghan, Jonathan, Stephen, and Kieran. She was also the delighted great grandmother of Rory, Aiden, Declan and Reagan.
A wonderful woman, Nora was loved and admired by all. At the age of 17 she sailed to America on the Queen Mary to the home of her loving Aunt Nora and Uncle Martin. Nora traveled with nothing more than a dream, a strong work ethic, love of family, God, Ireland and her new country, the United States, which she called home for over 73 years. A selfless loving mother, whose love for her children was visible in everything she did. Nora also loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Along with raising her family, Nora had a career with the NYC Board of Education, rising to the responsibility of the head cook at St. Catherine’s Academy in the Bronx.
Nora was one who always quietly gave back. A dedicated, positive force, who for many years volunteered to tirelessly serve in various roles for many clubs, churches and schools. Nora was the Treasurer of the East Durham Irish Cultural Center, a member of the St. Raymond’s Boys and Girls High School’s and St. Francis Xavier Church Mother’s Clubs. Nora was also one of the founding membersand long-time supporter of the St. Raymond’s Gaelic Football Club and served in the committee to help build Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham.
Always a caring and generous couple, throughout the years Nora and Jim’s home was the starting point for many of their family members,who wanted to live the same American dream they did.

Family and friends are invited to Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 20 Cedar Street. Bronxville, NY, on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 3:00 – 8:00 PM for visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Nora at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Scarsdale NY on Monday, April 26 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.

John as we said, it is very hard to lose one’s mum but as long as you share her stories and speak of her often she will live through all of you forever. I may never have met her in person but knowing you gives me a good idea of the type of the person she was and you are right she was a good mum.
