Yi Sheng, an Eastchester resident of twenty years, passed away on February 19, 2021. His sudden demise brought profound shock to his family and friends.

A native of Shenyang, China, Yi was born on October 17, 1959, to Yuhua Sheng and Wenli Hu. After graduating from Liaoning University in 1984, he stayed and taught financial economy. Later he came to America in 1986 and enrolled at Fordham University where he earned his MA and Ph.D. in finance. Yi then worked and taught at several prominent financial and educational institutions, including the likes of J. P. Morgan, Lehman College of CUNY, the law firms of Wilson Elser and Cleary Gottlieb, and the Ankura Consulting Group. Yi also served as a columnist and overseas editor from 2009 to 2015 for the Dealmaker magazine, a Beijing-based mergers and acquisitions publication, not to mention his role as the translator of the 2012 Scott Keller and Colin Price book titled “Beyond Performance: How Great Organizations Build Ultimate Competitive Advantage” for its Chinese publication.

As a man of multifarious interests beyond his professional ones, Yi loved reading, writing, swimming, jogging, music, photography, collecting historical stamps and postcards, cooking, and traveling. Animated by the simple maxim of loving life, his passions spanned far and wide.

Above all, Yi was a true family man, a loving husband of Xiaonan Cui, a devoted father of Leon, a bosom brother, a kind uncle, and a loyal friend to the innumerable individuals across the two ends of the Pacific Ocean. As an exceptionally warm, compassionate, and humorous human being, no one was left unaffected, whether it be family, friends, or colleagues. He will be forever remembered as a loving presence that lived and thrived in a world that was at times anything but. He lived life beautifully and nobly, for all was, and is, better thanks to him. He shall be dearly missed.
