Roland, Beatrice “Babs” October 5, 1934 - April 10, 2019

Beatrice A. Roland (née Byrne), age 84, of Eastchester passed away peacefully after a recent illness on April 10, 2019. Beatrice (Babs) was born in Mt. Vernon on October 5, 1934 to Francis and Beatrice McLoughlin Byrne. Beatrice met her husband Donald while they staffed the Mt. Vernon Public Library Bookmobile in 1959. On September 3, 1961 Don and Babs were married. The City of Mt. Vernon honored Beatrice for her 38 years of dedicated service at “The Library” with an award ceremony upon her retirement in 1999. Beatrice was an avid reader and enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ellen Molloy and James of Eastchester, and son Don and Fatima of Milan, NY. Her grandchildren Dana and fiance David, Remy, Jimmy, and Hudson will forever remember their “Grandma”. Bea is also survived by her sister-in-law Ruth and numerous nieces and nephews. Beatrice is predeceased by her husband Donald, sister Elizabeth and brothers William and Robert. Visitation will be Friday April 12 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, 20 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday April 13 at 9:45am at Sts. Peter & Paul and St. Ursula Church, 129 East Birch Street, Mt. Vernon, NY. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
