Barbara C. Marlin, 76, formerly of Melville, passed away peacefully January 27, 2019 at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, New York. She was born March 14, 1942 to Frank Canade and Mary Deegan in Brooklyn, New York. Barbara graduated from Syosset High School and attended SUNY Farmingdale. She worked for more than 25 years at Newsday’s Arts and Entertainment desk. She married the late Lawrence J. Marlin in 1960 with whom she celebrated over 50 years of marriage. Barbara is survived by her children, Annmarie (Brian), Maureen (Howie), and Chris (Meredith), and beloved grandchildren Meghan (Christian), Lawrence Augustine, Alexander, Libby and Emma. She was predeceased by her brothers Frank and Danny. Barbara loved spending time with her family and friends, especially hosting them at her home in Melville. Her Christmas Eve dinners of the Feast of the Seven Fishes were legendary, and Barbara made a mean meatball. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. at the McGrath Funeral Home in Bronxville. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Joseph’s church in Bronxville on Friday, February 1 at 10:45 a.m.

January 29, 2019 at 12:30 pmLosing Aunt Barbara at such a young age saddens me to no end. I had selfishly thought there would be time for many more visits after I retired. I had a wonderful aunt who, in my mind, never grew old. I’m so fortunate to have been blessed with such great memories of my aunt and uncle, who will now be together forever.
