Anita Pine, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 while residing at the Somers Manor Nursing Center, Somers, NY. She was born on August 18, 1930 in Bronx, NY to Ivan Parfomchick and Bertha Jurkowski Parfomchick. She is survived by her sister Karen Wiktor and her husband, Stan of Somers, NY, and their three sons, Thomas, Andrew and Gregory, her daughter Denise Miller, her husband, Steve, of Charlestown, RI and her two granddaughters, Anna and Elizabeth Miller of Cedar Knolls, NJ., and her grandson Stephen Altvater and his wife Nicole and her two great grandchildren, Angelina and Tyler Altvater of Bethany, CT.
She was a 1948 graduate of High School and was married to John Gueovjian on October 7, 1950. Together they raised two daughters, Marian Gevjan Altvater and Denise Gevjan Miller, initially on Paulding Ave. in the Bronx, relocating to 96 Parkway W, Mt. Vernon, NY in 1963. Anita returned to Fordham University in 1973 and completed several certificate programs leading to employment in the World Trade Center for the NY State Rent Administrators office in the World Trade Center, transfered to their White Plains office in 1989 and retired in 1996.
Anita was a passionate follower of Jesus Christ and demonstrated her faith daily through an active prayer life, extending love, kindness and hope to others and gaving generously to individuals and organizations. People that knew her well experienced her her frequent turning to her Lord for strength, joy and direction.
She was a life member of the New York Art Students League since the early seventies where she developed her skills as an acomplished oil painter, which she continued to pursue well into her eighties. She had a love for art and acknowleged the beauty around her through the changing seasons, loving in particular the changing light of spring and the qualities of moon light.
Anita was a devoted and loving mother to her two daughters which led to strong, enduring friendships later in life. She loved her adopted “home town” of Bronxville, enjoying the stores and shops in this village setting as well as her home which she affectionately called her “artist cottage”, for more than 5 decades.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on February 10, 2018 at the McGrath Funeral Home, 20 Cedar St., Bronxville, NY.
