Elinor M. Stapleton, a cherished resident of Tuckahoe/Bronxville, New York, passed away peacefully on June 26th, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and hard work that will forever be remembered.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Elinor embarked on a remarkable journey, touching the lives of many along the way. She dedicated a significant portion of her professional career to AT&T, where she held various positions within the iconic Empire State Building. Elinor’s commitment and work ethic were evident throughout her time there.
Later, she became the esteemed Bank Branch Manager at Greenwich Savings Bank in Herald Square, showcasing her leadership skills and exceptional service to customers. Her contributions to the Branch were remarkable.
In addition to her successful career, Elinor’s heart was filled with love for her family. She was the beloved wife of George J. Stapleton, a proud Naval WWII Veteran, and together they built a beautiful life in the Bronx. Elinor and George raised four wonderful boys, Thomas, Robert, John, and Bill, in the close-knit Parkchester section of the borough.
Elinor’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she embraced her roles as a mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the proud mother-in-law of Alberta, Eileen, and Meg, and her love and guidance touched the lives of her grandchildren Christine, Thomas, Elizabeth, Owen, and Jack. Elinor’s legacy will continue to shine through her great-grandchildren, Ava, and Kayla Mirando.
Throughout her life, Elinor embodied strength, compassion, and an incredible sense of humor and comedic timing. Her warm presence and unwavering support brought comfort to those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we bid farewell to Elinor M. Stapleton, we hold onto the cherished memories and the profound impact she had on our lives. Her legacy will forever be etched in our hearts, and her spirit will continue to inspire us as we carry her love and wisdom forward.
May her soul find eternal peace.

June 27, 2023 at 7:46 pmEven though there was a 40-year age difference, I consider Elinor one of the “hippest” friends that I’ve had in my life. Our 108 Sag “Girls’ Night Out” dinners at Roma’s or Mamma Assunta’s or any of the other wonderful Tuckahoe, Bronxville, and Crestwood restaurants, were a regular occurrence back in the day; and Elinor’s lively and frank conversations were so entertaining and memorable. Elinor was a truly funny storyteller and conversationalist, At the same time, she also imparted a lot of wisdom. I also cherish our post-Sunday noon mass.at St. Joseph’s lunches at Lange’s Deli (seafood salad for Elli and the Celtic sandwich for me), which we alternated with coffee and cake at Topps Bakery. Elinor was undoubtedly the “Best Dressed Woman ” that I have ever encountered. She had “Flair”!! My life has assuredly been made that much richer by virtue of having known such a fine woman. I deeply cherish all of my wondrous memories of this fine woman. Rest in peace, Elinor, Love, Anne

June 30, 2023 at 11:56 pmMike and I send our sincerest condolences to all Elinor’s family.
They broke the mold when Elinor was made. A lady who will never be forgotten! She was kind, thoughtful and could have been a standup comedian…what a funny lady! From the Neil Diamond concert that her and I attended when she was about 90 years old and she was dancing like a teenager, to the fun dinner outings with 108 Sagamore girls….life was always a hoot with Elinor.
RIP Elinor, I hope you are dancing with the Angels?
