Stephen J. Pittari, longtime resident of Mount Vernon, New York, passed away on June 1st, 2012 following a brief illness. He was 68 years old. He was born November 28, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY to John T. and Catherine (Paino) Pittari.
He attended grammar school at Sts. Peter and Paul in Mt. Vernon and high school at Iona Prep in New Rochelle. Following receipt of a Bachelor’s Degree from Holy Cross College, he graduated from Fordham University School of Law in 1968.When he joined the Westchester Legal Aid Society a year later, it would be his first and only employer. He became chief attorney in 1973 and executive director in 1982, holding both positions until his retirement in 2011. He is survived by his brother, John J. Pittari M.D. and sister-in-law Patricia; six nieces and nephews, Mary, Carolyn, John, Jeanne, Patricia, Michael; eight grand nieces and nephews and many cousins. Visitation will be held at Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home in Bronxville on Thursday evening, June 14, from 6 – 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held for family the following morning, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
