Samoladas, Vivi September 29, 1941 - December 21, 2019

On Saturday, December 21st, the winter solstice, Eudoxia “Vivi” Samoladas passed away in Bronxville, NY. She was born in Thessaloniki, Greece on September 29, 1941 and came to the U.S. in the early 1960s as a college student. Upon graduating from Mt. Union College, she moved to Washington DC to work at the Greek embassy and then to NYC to work at the Greek consulate. She married her husband of 48 years, Minos Samoladas, in 1971 and they moved to Bronxville in 1975 with their baby daughter, Maria-Daphne. They welcomed their son, George, in 1977. She was a creative go-getter who started a catering business while she taught cooking classes and made crafts and jewelry to sell, as well as her famous sweet dessert breads. At the same time, she was working at the Bronxville Middle School office and in the superintendent’s office at Scarsdale high school and later, as the registrar for Scarsdale schools. She was a terrific mother—warm, patient and always trying to make her children’s lives better. Her favorite job was being a YiaYia to her 3 grandsons, Jackson, Luke and George, and her new baby grandson, Leo. She loved her son-in-law, Jeff and daughter-in-law, Katie, and immediately treated them like family. She was very supportive to her husband, Minos, and was the yin to his yang. Vivi was fearless and driven, yet caring, gracious and thoughtful. Through her words and actions, she taught us to love one another, work hard, stop regretting and if you like it, buy it because you can’t take it with you. She will be missed every day and her lessons of selflessness, strength and positivity will stay with her family and friends always.
