Ruth Elaine Kirk, 68, of Yonkers, New York died after a long and courageous battle against breast cancer. She was born on May 3, 1944 in Huntington, NY to C.S. Lee and Ruth (Nee Chapell) Haff and grew up in Northport, NY.
She received a B.S. in Elementary Education from SUNY Cortland in 1966 and a Master’s in Special Education from the College of New Rochelle. She taught at San Remo Elementary School in Kings Park, NY and Bedford Road School in Pleastantville, NY in the 1960’s and 70’s. She lovingly taught children at Asbury Nursery School in Yonkers, NY for more than 20 years, retiring in 2009. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, classic movies, and a good hot fudge sundae. Elaine will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, her hospitality, patriotism and her love of gift shops.
Elaine is survived by her devoted husband, Michael of Yonkers, NY; her children Kathryn (John) Heetderks of Germantown, MD, her son Michael (Kerry) Kirk of LaGrangeville, NY; granddaughters Helen and Anne; her sister Jeanne and brother Stephen, her dearest friend Bertie Kozma, and many loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
