McNamara, Rosemary April 25, 2024

Rosemary McNamara, a longtime resident of Yonkers,

passed away on April 6 in Myrtle Beach, SC, where she lived with her husband Tom for the past two years. Born in Bronxville on May 17, 1930 to Iva (Quirk) and Patrick Short, she grew up in Eastchester with her eight siblings. After attending St. Gabriel’s HS in New Rochelle, she trained as a Medical Assistant at Payne Hall Medical Center in NYC. On April 26, 1952, she married Thomas A. McNamara and soon began a family. After taking time off to raise their children, Rosemary returned to work as Sprain Brook Manor Nursing Home’s Business Office Manager for over 25 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. At the time of her death, she is survived by her husband of almost 60 years and their four children: Marybeth Ringleib (Colin) of Hawthorne, Thomas (Rosita) of Tuckahoe, Gary (Elaine) of Monument, CO and Brian (Debbie) of Sunset Beach, NC. Rosemary is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kerry Thomas (Russ), David Blumenthal, Elizabeth, Patricia, Thomas, Conor and Maggie McNamara, two step-granddaughters, Elisa Ackerley (Jay) and Laura Hodgson, and four great grandchildren. In addition, five of her siblings, Patricia Short, Iva Schulz, Donald Short, Elizabeth Jones and Robert Short, survive and she was predeceased by her parents, brothers Joseph and John and sister Margaret. She also leaves behind more than 40 loving nieces and nephews. Known for her smile, sense of humor and infectious chuckle, this world traveler and crossword enthusiast enjoyed large family gatherings and routine Sunday dinners. Her warm heart and wisdom will be missed by all. The family will receive friends at The Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home in Bronxville, NY on Wednesday, April 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday April 12th at 10:45 am.
