Franklin carried that fighting spirit with him when he moved to New York City as a child. He grew up in New York City, the middle child of Genara and J. Mariano Rosado (deceased) and was the brother of the late Aida Diaz, Josie Rosado, Henry Rosado and Mary Iorio. In 1963 he married Nelly Maruri in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
