Pope, Wendell E. June 5, 1941 - August 24, 2019

Wendell Eugene Pope, age 78, of Mount Vernon and Bronxville,   born June 5, 1941 in South Carolina, beloved husband of 42 yrs. to Maryann Pope (Deinet), passed away on August 24, 2019.  A marketing strategist with international experience in package goods, consumer services, travel, tourism, and business aviation, he was a Partner at Richartz, Fliss, Clark & Pope (RFCP). He managed Redco Foods, created marketing for India, Belize, Grenada & St. Maarten/St Martin. He spent 13 years at J. Walter Thompson on brands such as Ford, Planters, Bausch & Lomb, Abbott, Nivea, and more.  Prior to founding his first Agency (Clark & Pope) in 1982, he was an SVP, Group Account Director at JWT in Montreal.  He once said: “There is no other business in which you can have more fun with your clothes on.” An avid history buff who rarely missed The NYTimes/crossword puzzle, he embraced every part of life and instilled his love of adventure in his children. Things that brought people together made him happiest:  a family reunion, a great meal, a fine bottle of wine, or a perfectly made Manhattan or Margarita. He was most proud of his children’s achievements. He will be greatly missed by his sister Beverly Jacob (George), his children: Wendell Pope III (Shari Pine), Loren Pope (Jennifer), Alexis Porter (Jeffrey), Clayton Pope (Leah); his grandchildren: Wendell and Everett Pope,  Briggs and Crosby Porter, Campbell and Quinn Pope, his brother-in-law Thomas Deinet, 7 nieces and nephews.  Also survived by first wife Sharon Pope. He was predeceased by Barbara Bulla (mother), Wendell Pope (father), William Bulla (stepfather), William Bulla (half-brother). Calling Hours at Fred H. The Bronxville “family’ is far-reaching and having Alexis and Clayton as part of that academic and athletic sector has been my good fortune.     To Maryann, Wendell Jr. Gus, Clayton, Alexis, I’m sorry I am not able to make the journey to be there in time for the visitation. Wendell was loved by many and he will be missed. My sincerest condolences at such a difficult time.
