Susan Petrilli, a longtime resident of Crestwood, Yonkers, NY passed away on Sunday, March 25 at age 66. Susan was born in the Bronx and moved to Crestwood when she was 9 years old. Susan was an alumna of Annunciation Catholic School in Crestwood, Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, Grasslands School of Nursing, University of Texas-El Paso, and Pace University School of Law. After graduating as a Registered Nurse from Grasslands School of Nursing, Susan was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Nurse Corps. Her time serving in the Army began in San Antonio, TX and Fort Polk, LA followed by two years in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe, Germany. Upon discharge at the rank of First Lieutenant, she worked for a year at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY before moving south to warmer weather as a critical care nurse in El Paso, TX. While working full-time, Susan pursued her B.S. in Nursing at UTEP. After receiving her BSN degree from UTEP, she continued her career as Head Nurse of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. While working full time at the Medical Center, Susan pursued a law degree at Pace University and was ultimately admitted to the New York State Bar in 1990. She began her law career as a nurse-attorney at Wilson Elser in Manhattan specializing in medical malpractice defense. Subsequently, she worked as an in-house malpractice attorney for Catholic Medical Center which later merged with St. Vincent’s in Manhattan. In 2009, Susan accepted a position as Associate General Counsel for NYU Langone Medical Center. Susan retired from NYU Langone in December 2017. Susan was an active member of the American Legion. Susan is survived by her daughter Sarah Petrilli and siblings Ric Petrilli (Atlanta, GA), Kathleen Mattare (Bethlehem, PA), Mary Rossy (Metuchen, NJ), Jean Traver (Darien, CT), Dan Petrilli (White Plains, NY) and Bob Petrilli (Simsbury, CT). Visitors will be received at Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home in Bronxville, NY on Monday, April 2nd from 2:00-4:00 pm and from 6:00-9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Annunciation Church in Crestwood, Yonkers NY on Tuesday, April 3rd at 10:00 AM.
