Moyna, Brendan J. March 22, 1969 - August 15, 2020

Brendan Moyna, 51, loving husband and father of four, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020.  Brendan was born on March 22, 1969 in the Bronx, New York to Irene and the late Thomas Moyna.

Brendan is survived by the love of his life Kathleen and his four amazing children Kealy, Kristian, Kacey, and Kevin. Brendan leaves behind his heartbroken mother Irene and siblings Thomas, James, and Annmarie, along with his beloved Aunt Kay, Uncle Paul, and numerous cousins. He also leaves his heavy hearted mother and father-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Gilchrist, along with 12 loving brothers and sisters-in-law as well as 19 nieces and nephews.

Brendan and Kathleen raised their family in the spiritual community of Crestwood, New York. Brendan was a force of nature. He did nothing half way. His motto was “we got this” and this motto served him through his many titles, responsibilities, and mentor roles, including: President of Hillcrest Lakers Community Club, local CYO board member, coach of the lacrosse teams at The Ursuline School and was a vital member of the Annunciation Parish. He had an unwavering commitment and pride for his alma mater Archbishop Stepinac High School. Brendan was a fixture at many games whether his children played or not. He supported athletes too numerous to count over the years. He leaves behind hundreds of devastated friends, relatives, and colleagues, who have lost their greatest motivator, cheerleader, best friend, mentor, and fan. His contribution and love for God, his family, friends, community and country cannot be underestimated.

Family will be gathering for a private wake at Fred H. McGrath & Son in Bronxville, New York on Thursday, 8/20. The funeral will be privately held Friday at 11 A.M. at the Annunciation Church, Crestwood, New York. It will be live streamed via the Annunciation-Our Lady of Fatima website or through the link provided: https://venue.streamspot.com/bbcbe56c

As serving others was integral in Brendan’s life, in lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that contributions be made in Brendan’s name to Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center, and Calvary Hospital, where they served his beloved dad.

There will be a Private Family Funeral Service at 11am, Friday, August 21, 2020 at Annunciation Church, Crestwood that will be live-streamed through the church website: annunciation-fatima.com

A procession through the streets of Crestwood will follow the conclusion of the mass. Those who wish to pay their respects to Brendan and the Moyna Family are encouraged to come outside as the procession passes.

It is with such sadness that I celebrate Brendan’s life. The times we spent with him as a family, from Kindergarten through fatherhood, we’re always fun and amazing. He was like part of our family for all those years.. He was full of enthusiasm in everything he did whether he was a student atIHM or a father at TUS.. He touched my heart in so many ways. Irene and Kathleen, thank you for letting me share your life with Brendan. Always remember to celebrate his life with all of us. You are all in our prayers.

It was truly a privilege to have known this remarkable father Brendan Moyna. SMC lacrosse, parents, and all us players will surely cherish the memories of hearing him cheering from the stands rain or shine, and laughing along with him in the parking lot after the game. Always with a smile on his face, laughter in his voice, and stories and advice to share, he will truly be missed but never forgotten. Our love and prayers go out to the Moyna family during these tragic times <3
