Molloy, Maura Kate June 18, 1960 - August 1, 2022

With deepest sorrow, we announce the death of Maura Kate Molloy, 62, of Rye NY.  Maura passed away at her family home after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer on August 1, 2022.

Maura, born to Mrs. Joan Molloy and the late Joseph M. Molloy, graced this world with her presence on June 18, 1960. She was the oldest daughter among seven siblings. Maura graduated from the Annunciation School in 1974 and Our Lady of Victory Academy in 1978. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from The Catholic University of America in 1982. She continued to pursue her love of music, earning a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Mannes College of Music in New York City.

Maura loved music and was a natural performer. She always shined, whether at grammar school concerts, high school musicals, Irish restaurants, or Carnegie Hall. She cherished bringing joy and emotion to every production.  She was proud of her 35 years as a highly-regarded music educator, teaching guitar, piano, and voice to hundreds of children.

Maura brought her boundless energy to the company she founded, Maura & Co., over 20 years ago. She will be fondly remembered for her ability to guide countless families through some of their most joyous occasions and their most difficult times with her musical expertise and beautiful voice. During her impressive career, Maura performed for Popes, Presidents, and at many classical and philanthropic events.  She was particularly proud of her contributions to the memorial services and funerals for the victims of September 11th.

Maura is preceded in death by her father, Joseph M. Molloy, and her sister, Kate Molloy. Maura is survived by her loving mother, Joan Molloy, her sisters, brothers, and in-laws. Joseph Molloy, Siobhan (Rich) Hans, Sheila Molloy, Pegeen (Michael) Costa, Sean (Lisa) Molloy and Delia (Jay) Bishop.  She adored and doted on her nieces and nephews. It brought her great joy to spend time with them at concerts, shows and sporting events throughout the years: Sean, Owen and Brigid Hans, Liam, Hanna and Molly Bishop, Caitlin Costa, and Connor, Peter and Betsy Molloy. She also leaves behind countless Aunts, Uncles and Cousins locally and in Ireland.

Shocked and saddened for this loss. Maura was a light. I still sing her songs and was fortunate to work with her. She was an absolutely incredible creative music teacher. She worked at my camp as well and amazed us year after year by having students write meaningful songs. May her music and light live on always. Sincere condolences.

Such fond memories of walking the halls at SIS with Maura, talking the Irish gab and seeing the smile she brought to the faces of her students. Maura had a beautiful voice and a was a beautiful soul. Hearing her sing at Saint John’s as well as many other times will resonate with me for a while. I am saddened at this time. I remember Maura for the amazing way she touched her students’ lives. Years ago, as a new educator to Primrose School, she wrote a beautiful original song for a Mother’s Day celebration I had with my kindergarten class. She used lines from the students stories in her song. It was exceptional. Maura was a beautiful person inside and out. My deepest condolences to her family.

Such a loss. What a happy person who put a smile on everyone’s face. When I asked my children if they remembered her, they reminded me of the greeting she would do in music class, “Hello, Katie.” “Hello, Ms. Molloy.” I can hear her singing that now with a tremendous smile on her face. She will truly be missed.

I’m so sad to hear Maura has passed. We shared a room at SMS for a few years and I always enjoyed her upbeat spirit. She was a passionate teacher and the students adored her. She mentioned her family often in our conversations and it was obvious she adored them. I will be forever grateful to her for rushing to my side when I learned of a death in my family during the school day. I’m sure she had a million things to do, but she dropped everything to make sure I was OK. I learned a lot from her, and will always remember her laugh. She had the best laugh. Wishing her family grace and peace during this difficult time.

First off, my deepest condolences to Maura’s family, friends, and all her loved ones. As one of the students she taught and worked alongside over the years, I was lucky to witness her love of music, people, and life firsthand for much of my upbringing – she was my music teacher most years K-5, directed my high school plays, and often encouraged me to sing with her guitar classes. I cherish all the memories we shared rehearsing, creating, and even figuring out t-shirt bulk orders together. From planning elementary school class concerts with utmost attention to detail to directing a modern take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream (complete with Beyonce interludes), Ms. Malloy poured her heart and soul into everything she did – and everyone she met along the way. She had a way of always seeing the best in me and my peers’ abilities – both musical and otherwise. I will never forget that in my senior yearbook, she wrote in all caps, “PS YOU BETTER KEEP SINGING.” I did – and I promise I always will. Thank you for everything, Ms. Malloy, and rest in peace.
