John Raymond Mitchell passed away on April 30, 2018 in Rye Brook, NY.  “Jack” Mitchell was born February 5, 1926, in Manhattan to John Raymond and Marguerite (née Reville) Mitchell.  He grew up in upper Manhattan, attending All Hallows High School in the Bronx, and at age 17, joined the Army Specialized Training Program.  In 1944, he was transported to France on the SS America. As an infantryman in the Battle of the Bulge, he fought with distinction, receiving both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, and was one of the first servicemen posted to Berlin, where he served through 1946. Under the G.I. Bill, Jack matriculated at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, graduating in 1949.  He worked as a management consultant in New York City and received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from New York University.  In 1961, he married Maryjane Tanahey, residing in New York City and then settling in Bronxville, NY, where they raised their four children.  He joined the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1974, where he worked for twenty years.  Jack was active and engaged in the Bronxville community, and his church, including as serving as a regular lecturer at the Church of St. Joseph. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Maryjane, his four children, Marguerite (and husband Ian, and grandchildren Madeleine, Jack, Aidan, and Theodore) of Bridge, United Kingdom; Mark, of New York City; Curtis (and wife Robin), of Decatur, Georgia; Suzanne (and husband Sam, grandchild Eleanor and Sam’s children Jack, Harry, and Lucy), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation, arthritis.org. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville between the hours of 5 to 7pm Thursday. A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday May 4 at 10:45am at the Church of St. Joseph in Bronxville. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the caring professionals of King Street Rehabilitation Center.
