Meschi, Joan D. April 22, 1939 - April 26, 2023

Joan D. Meschi of Bronxville and Southold, NY passed on April 26, 2023.
Joan was born on April 22, 1939 to Belle and David Dalton in Rockville Centre, New York.
While attending St. John’s University, she met and fell in love with the late George Meschi. After graduation, Joan and George married on August 21, 1965.
She quickly began her lifelong career in education and went on to teach Catholic elementary students for over 30 years. She even taught her then future daughter in law, Michele and her sister in second grade. Teaching second grade was Joan’s favorite year to teach, highlighted by preparing her students for the sacrament of Holy Communion.  This was an obvious testament to her faith, that she followed up to the very end.
Together in love, George and Joan had 3 children, the late Joan Lorette, and she is survived by George & his wife Michele, and Michael & his wife Jennifer. Calling Eastchester home, they enjoyed summers on Long Island beaching with their own children, extended family, and always playing cards or board games.
After the loss of her husband in 2001, Joan “finally” bought her house with a water view in Southhold, NY, where she shared joyful memories with family and friends. Glorious sunrises from her living room, sunsets with ice cream, and kids at the rocky beach warmed everyone’s heart, especially hers. The playing games continued on with gentle lessons of disappointment to be taught to her grandchildren, starting with the game of Sorry to make good sports of them all. It worked and we all continued to laugh and learn with our “Mimi,” the ever compassionate, patient, and unselfish teacher. Mimi adored her grandchildren who are now all late-aged teenagers: Nicole, Mark, Amanda, Michael Jr., & Mary Catherine Meschi and step-grandchildren Jacob & Lucas Bierlein.
Joan Meschi’s love of her children, grandchildren, and all the children she taught through the years was boundless. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made at St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
