McTigue, Gerald E. November 26, 1934 - January 13, 2021

Gerald McTigue, often known as Uncle Gerry or simply UG by nieces, nephews, family and friends, was 86 years old when he passed away on January 13, 2021. Since 2017 Gerry was a resident at the Sunrise Senior Living Community in Crestwood, NY. For decades before he along with his wife Diana, who passed away in 2017, called Bloomfield, NJ, home.

Gerry died of Leukemia which flared after he contracted Covid-19. He died peacefully at New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital. He is survived by his brother Paul F. McTigue, sister in-law Paula Greco-McTigue, brother-in-law Henry Marzullo and sister-in-law Josephine Marzullo, along with ten nieces and nephews: Paul McTigue, Jr., Ellen Loren, Christopher McTigue, Elizabeth Wanga, Michael McTigue, Kathleen Paz, Colleen Frolich, MaryJacobs, Henry Marzullo, Jr., and Lisa Chai. Gerry is also survived by fourteen grand nieces and nephews.

Gerald Eugene McTigue was born on November 26, 1934, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Helen Downey McTigue and Frank McTigue. He married Diana Marzullo, the love of his life, in 1969. Gerry graduated with a B.S. from St. John’s University and an M.S. in Physics from Georgetown University. He worked for NASA, Bell Labs, Belcor and subsidiary electronic communication companies. After retirement from the electronic technology field, he worked part-time for H & R Block.

In retirement, Gerry and Diana were enthusiastic walkers. They owned an automobile, but if a destination was within what they considered walking distance, be it around the corner or five miles away, they walked. Gerry loved to read. His keen mind and outstanding memory were truly a gift recognized by many but especially by his nieces and nephews who always chose Uncle Gerry as their first team pick in a family-friendly game of Trivial Pursuit.

Gerry’s wife, Diana, astutely summed up the essence of Gerry: “Gerry is the gentlest man I have ever met”.
