Margaret Mary McQuillan, 92, died Thursday, May 25, 2017 following a brief illness. She leaves her brother Thomas A. McQuillan (Margaret A.); her nephews, Carl J. Pernicone, Peter J. Perni- cone, and her nieces, Elizabeth A. McQuillan, and Joanne M. Blankenship; her cousin, William H. McQuillan. She was predeceased by her sister, Isabella M. Pernicone, her brother, John Q. McQuillan, and her nephew, Thomas H. McQuillan. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, the daughter of John A. and Margaret L. (Higgins) McQuillan, Margaret Mary was a longtime resi- dent of Crestwood, NY and Newtown, CT. Following her graduation from Aquinas High School in 1941, Margaret Mary attended the College of New Rochelle where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude in 1945. She received her Master of Arts degree from Columbia Univer- sity in 1948. Margaret Mary joined the publishing company, then Harcourt Brace & World, in 1949 in an entry level secretarial position. She quickly rose through managerial ranks becoming the company’s assistant corporate secretary. In 1971, Margaret Mary was elevated to corporate secretary and senior vice president and later elected a corporate officer, positions she held until her retirement in 1989. Throughout her long career with Harcourt Brace Jovanovich she was highly valued as a business executive, colleague and friend, particularly by many authors she worked with over the years. Margaret Mary was devoted to her family and took special pride in her nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Church of the Annuncia- tion, Crestwood, NY on May 27, 2017 at 11:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to Cabrini of Westchester 115 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522 or Catholic Charities.
