Mary McCabe Walsh, devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend passed away unexpectedly in her home on Monday, December 10 at age 57. Mary was born on July 29, 1955 in New Rochelle to Catherine and Hugh McCabe
(both now deceased). She was the third of seven children, raised in a large and loving Irish-Catholic family. Mary graduated Summa Cum Laude from Iona College in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. It was there she met her husband and best friend of thirty-five years, Bill Walsh, whom she married in 1977. Mary went on to earn her Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law in 1983 and pursued a successful career both in private practice at Demov Morris and in corporate law at TIAA-CREF. Mary was an accomplished attorney, but found her true passion as a mother, spending the last twenty-two years of her life dedicated to raising her daughter, Kate, and son, Jack. Mary and Bill spent the first fifteen years of their marriage living in the Bronx and Manhattan, before settling in Riverdale with their two children in 1992. Mary committed her life to caring for others as an incredible mother to her two children, loving wife, and wonderful daughter and caretaker to her own mother. Mary’s greatest joy came from witnessing her two children thrive at Georgetown University, watching Kate graduate this past May and Jack, a junior, row for the university’s crew team. She was so proud of her children’s achievements. She is survived by her husband, Bill, daughter, Kate, son, Jack, sister Catherine (Jill), brothers, Hugh (Janet), Thomas (Joan), Mark (Beth), David (Evelyn), Lawrence (Nancy), sisters-in-law, Mary (Richard) and Annie, brothers-in-law, Edward (Jennifer) and Thomas (Jackie), and twenty-one nieces and nephews.
Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville, NY between the hours of 6 to 9pm on Wednesday December 12 and 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9pm on Thursday December 13th. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Church New Rochelle, NY on Friday December 14th at 9:30 am. Interment to follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
