Martin M. Hopwood, Sr. (Matty) of Bronxville,N.Y. passed away on Satuday, June 25, 2011. Matty was born in the Bronx to John and Hannorah Hopwood.
His loving wife, Loretta predeceased him in 2008. Matty served his country in The United States Army Air Force during WWII and completed 37 missions in B17 and B24’s in the European Theatre. Matty received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the highest medal in the Army Air Force. Matty founded Richards Conditioning Corp. in 1949, where he worked with his wife for most of his life. He is survived by his loving children, Martin, Jr.(Ann) of Garden City, NY; Lawrence (Kerry) of Bronxville, NY; and Richard (Ann) of Harrison, NY. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandsons and a sister, June Lynch. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Calling hours at The Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville between the hours of 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Church Bronxville, on Thursday June 30 at 10am. Interment to follow at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
