Lucarelli, Angelo, Sr. June 30, 1934 - April 28, 2023

Angelo Lucarelli, Sr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023.

Angelo was born in Trasacco, Italy on June 30, 1934 to Oreste and Restituta Lucarelli. He was raised in Trasacco, a small town in the Abruzzi region of Italy. Angelo emigrated to America in his late teens and originally settled in Queens and later moved to the Bronx, once he met the love of his life, Lena, where they built their life and raised their children and family.

Angelo, was one of nine children in his family, who was a proud and hard-working man. He grew up alongside his siblings during the war and cultivated and worked on their family farm back home in Trasacco, up until he decided to take a chance to come to America to see if he could make a better life for himself and his family back home. Angelo crossed the ocean on a small ship for 2 grueling weeks until he reached the ports in NY. He spent the next few years in Queens, where during this time he met his wife, Lena, and took her out on their first date in Rye Playland and they, like a storybook romance rode the swan ride through the tunnel of love and fell in love and have been happily married for 62 years since. Angelo and Lena raised their three children, Restina, Angelo, Jr. and Anthony in their warm home filled with so many fun times and treasured memories in the Belmont section of the Bronx. As he loved being surrounded by family, fortunately enough they lived right across the street from family as well. They even built a summer home out in Long Island for all to enjoy together. Many unforgettable memories were made out on The Bay – from fishing to clamming, to gardening and grilling, bike riding and playing cards. The families spent their summer days out in Long Island as soon as school let out up until summer was over and it was time to go back home to the Bronx. Angelo’s life became even more filled with passion and purpose when he learned he was going to be a grandfather, not only the first time, with his granddaughter, Julia, but again with his grandson, Jack. The excitement and love he had for his grandchildren and the spark in his eye whenever he heard them call him “Nonno” was just priceless. His pride and love for them was evident each time he saw a ballet or dance performance, or a soccer or baseball game – and rang true with each cheer and clap.

Angelo was a butcher by trade for many years, and proudly worked in several markets and even had his own butcher shop in the Bronx for a short period of time. He would share his stories over the years of work with a gleam in his eye of the famous people he met during his time as a butcher, the generous gifts he received and even the pieces of advice he received from various customers. He loved his job and always provided his service with a smile (and of course a fun chat). Angelo also loved his heritage and expressed this not only through his stories of Trasacco, but even made his own wines and prosciutto.

Angelo was very outspoken and loved to socialize. He could start a conversation, with his famous five words “Let me tell you something…” with just about anyone he met – from a co-worker to waitstaff at a restaurant and make that person feel like they have been friends for years. It is no surprise to see that many people knew and loved Angelo.

Angelo lived a long and good life and though he was taken from us, we know he is at peace and with God and reunited with his daughter, Restina, who he had promised he would meet with her again one day, as well those family and friends who have passed before him.

Angelo was cared for by his loving wife, Lena Lucarelli. He was a loyal father and grandfather to his oldest son Angelo Lucarelli Jr., and his youngest son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Tippy Lucarelli, and their two children, Julia and Jack; and brother to Orestino, Rina, and Tito. Predeceased by his oldest daughter, Restina Lucarelli, his parents, Oreste and Restituta Lucarelli, his brother, Querino, and his sisters, Adelina, Lidia, Giovanina and Filomena.

My condolences to the entire Lucarelli Family. I have fond memories of Angelo Sr. driving me, Angelo Jr. and Frank to school it was always an adventure filled with laughs and stories from Angelo Sr. He would always send me to buy the newspaper while we waited for Angelo Jr. to get ready. He often called me Irving as a joke. He was a kind and thoughtful man.
